Buat pertama kalinya, sukan catur telah dimuatkan dalam salah satu acara bagi aktiviti sukan karnival IIUM yang akan diadakan pada 11Januari 2009.

Encik Mohd Fadli bin Zakaria dan Encik Ahmad Fadzil Nayan telah dilantik menjadi arbiter dan pegawai teknikal bagi kejohanan catur tersebut. Jumpa anda di sana.

Dijangka bakat-bakat baru dalam kejohanan  ini dapat dikenalpasti di kalangan para peserta IIUM dan akan menjadi pelapis kepada pasukan catur IIUM yang sediada.

Rules of Tournament

• This tournament is according to FIDE Laws & Regulations.
• This tournament follows the rules of team event.
• Each team consist of 4 players.
• For male section, the format round-robin tournament has been used, while, for female section, is using the Swiss Team Event format.
• Each round, the time control is 45 minutes for each player.
• The winner will be given to the team which gets the highest accumulated points.
• If teams at the same points, the winner will be decided by tie-break which are : a. Match points  b.Match to match  c.Playoff
